Proud American

Scott Walker March 28, 2014

Ms. Nicols stopped by the radio station (my real job) the other day to tell us a bit of good news. Ms. Nicols got a job recently and we are so very proud of her. This is the first time in the past two years she has had a job and she is equally proud as well.

Before she left she asked if she could have an American flag (for the past 25-years, WGNS has been a drop off point for old and weathered flags - a local Boy Scout Troop properly disposes of them). Ms Nicols dug through the storage bin of flags until she found two that were in fairly good condition. She told us that she wanted to take them home for her son who was once in the U-S Army. The two live together in a local motel room. Her son is blind today and she helps him out daily. She even reads books to him because he can not see the print, even though he is under the age of 40. She is a great mom.

After she got the flags she bent down to pick up her purse. She almost dropped one of the two flags and quickly caught herself stating out loud, "You can't let the American Flag ever touch the ground." She stood up and held closely to the flags and started reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. I snapped a picture of her before she left to catch the Rover bus.

Ms. Nicols, you are a great example of a proud American and a loyal mother. For that, we thank you.
