As I approached in the light snow and 23-degree temperatures I asked, "Would you like a heavier coat?" I told him I had a very heavy Carhartt work coat in the truck. "No, this will do, thanks," he told me. I asked if he lived outside and his response... "I live in the woods." I asked, "Are you homeless?" He stated, "Yes, have been for the past 10-years." He smiled and told me to have a nice day as he walked away and headed towards an industrial area that appeared to be deserted.
I recently saw a comment on a photography website that stated, "Pictures of homeless are so overdone, I'm tired of seeing them." I don't really know what is more sad. The thought of thousands of people being homeless and facing an uphill battle with mental illness or the fact that people don't like acknowledging the existence of homeless in their community.
